Pope Francis upholds Catholic ban on contraception

Pope Francis has sent a message to a Natural Family Planning conference in which he upholds the central teachings of Humanae Vitae: the prohibition of artificial contraception in marriage. The pope restated the unitive and procreative aspects of sexual intercourse as “inseparable” and called for a counter-sexual revolution, warning Catholics that the widespread use of contraception has impoverished many societies to the point that some are in danger of demographic collapse.
