Much of the controversy about Pope Francis’ appointment of Victor Manuel Fernandez to DDF has been about a book he wrote. That misses the mark. The reality is worse. The Pope is not questioning the orthodoxy of previous doctrine czars such as Ratzinger and Müller, he is condemning their approach.
