By definition in canon law (342.1), a synod “is a group of Bishops selected from different parts of the world who meet together . . .” With many non-episcopal members, the 2023 Synod must clarify its own specific character and authority, specifically what is meant by such chameleon-like terms as “synodality” and “synodal Church.” [1]
