After news broke last week about the Vatican’s expulsion of Luis Fernando Figari, the founder of an influential Peruvian lay group, the original whistleblower who reported his abuses said she had asked that action be taken against him in 2010. In 2017, Figari was sanctioned by the Vatican after various allegations of sexual, physical, spiritual, and psychological abuse against members of the group.
