The closure of a monastery founded in 1134 by the great St. Bernard of Clairvaux is sad news indeed, “Bare ruined choirs where late the sweet birds sang,” as Shakespeare put it. One thing is sure: The Church of the future, particularly in Europe, is going to look very different from the Church of the past. But all’s not lost.
