Elections and politics are expressions of the sacred for the left, hence the agitation over the new president. Far from helping us counter the faults of a figure like Trump, Catholic leaders today are becoming ever-more complicit in the problems that led to his rise. We continue to cling to false ideas of freedom. As long as we do, there will be nastier surprises in store.
