Pope names new cardinals

In a surprise announcement during his weekly Sunday address, the pope announced the names of bishops from Mali, Spain, Sweden, Laos,  and El Salvador — all without service in the Vatican. These appointments bring to 50 the number of men elevated to the cardinalate by Francis.
