The parliament of the “Catholic” and formerly conservative nation has voted to allow marriage for all “consenting adults.” The Church opposed the law to no avail. The law reflects a change in attitudes about marriage, reflected in the fact that in 2016 the number of exclusively civil marriages eclipsed the number of church weddings for the first time.
