Key papal ally, Father Antonio Spadaro, gave a lecture at Notre Dame on Tuesday arguing that the theme of mercy is critical to understanding Pope Francis’s political engagement. Spadaro said the much talked about “Benedict Option” does not align with Francis’s vision for geopolitics and argued against a diplomacy that divides the world into good versus evil.
