Throughout the Church year, we do not read very often from the Song of Songs, yet this book has been the favorite of many great Saints, and it does appear in the Advent liturgy. In these, the darkest days of the year, the days of the winter solstice, the Church announces Christ as the rising light: “Hark! my lover–here he comes springing across the mountains, leaping across the hills.”
