Because of a sharp decrease in contributions, the Vatican faces a $60-million deficit for 2021, says Father Juan Antonio Guerrero Alves, prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy. In an interview with Vatican News, he said the shortfall would require using millions of dollars from the Peter’s Pence collection for operating expenses rather than papal charities.
