More trouble for Catholics in China

Jimmy Lai, 73, the Catholic pro-democracy activist, who is the founder of the Apple Daily media group, has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for his participation in two demonstrations in 2019. Since those protests, Beijing has increased its authoritarian grip on Hong Kong, imposing a sweeping national security law which threatened life sentences for anyone committing what the authorities view as secession, subversion, terrorism, or collusion with foreign forces.
