Pope Francis issued a Motu Proprio, setting up a new commission to verify and implement rules for marriage annulment cases in Italian dioceses. The intent gives new impetus to the pope’s 2015 document Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus, which began the reform of the annulment process and tasked local bishops with handling annulments. The pope has also set up a new Pontifical Commission within the Tribunal of the Roman Rota, to verify and help all the particular Churches in Italy.
