Facing the people or facing East
Joseph Shaw, Catholic Answers
Wednesday, January 12, 2022
Celebration of Mass with priest and people facing the same way (east or ad orientem) is the historically dominant practice of the West. It is also the practice of the Eastern churches. The East is also the place from which Christ will return, making eastward-facing prayer eschatological and, therefore, more apropos to the spirit of the liturgy.
