Vatican II’s pastoral constitution on Joy and Hope called for engaging the world in ‘the light of the Gospel,’ but some initiatives in the Church today seek to subvert the faith to the spirit of modernity. But Gaudium et Spes remains as a reminder that our duty to scrutinize the signs of the times can never be separated from “the light of the Gospel.”
