The Catholic Church is foundational and, therefore, vital to the survival of Western civilization. We can weather the disappearance of the Unitarians, Quakers, and Episcopalians, and even the paganization of mainline Protestantism. But the West will not survive without the Catholic Church holding the line in society at large. No other Christian sect will step up to replace a fractured Catholic Church. Without Catholicism, the West will lose its coherence entirely and its decline will accelerate.
