More kowtowing to China as senior state bishop visits Hong Kong

The visit to Hong Kong of the head of China’s state-controlled Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association comes just a week after a number of Catholic bishops from around the world called for the release of pro-democracy campaigner Jimmy Lai, in jail in Hong Kong for almost three years and facing the prospect of the rest of his life in prison. The demise of religious freedom in Hong Kong is subtle, slow, and insidious.
