By a vote of 240-2, the U.S. bishops voted last week to write a letter to Pope Francis in support of the effort to see St. John Henry Newman named a Doctor of the Church. The USCCB decision came after the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales asked the U.S. conference to write a letter of support.
