USCCB: Pope hasn’t changed marriage

Monday’s Vatican declaration on blessing “same-sex couples” and those in other “irregular situations” does not change the Catholic Church’s teaching that marriage is between a man and a woman, says a spokeswoman for America’s Catholic bishops. White points out, though the new instruction claims to be “avoiding scandal and confusion” (about permission to perform “gay” marriages) ecclesial advocates “are now free to do precisely what the decree forbids.”
