Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández wrote a book in 1998, Mystical Passion: Spirituality and Sensuality, that features provocative, sexually charged themes likely to add further scrutiny to the already embattled prefect of the Vatican’s doctrine office. The work includes graphic descriptions of human sexual relations, including a detailed, imaginary erotic encounter with Jesus Christ on the shores of Galilee, based on a spiritual experience told to Fernández by a 16-year-old girl.
