Nicaragua has exiled a bishop sentenced to 26 years after he stood up to the regime of President Daniel Ortega. Bishop Rolando Álvarez of Matagalpa has now been released to the Vatican along with Bishop Isidoro del Carmen Mora Ortega of Siuna, 15 priests, and two seminarians. Álvarez was jailed in February 2023 for refusing to board a plane with 222 other exiled prisoners.
