Pope Francis’s dalliance with a tyrannical ideology needs to be confronted. By calling for cooperation with Marxists to fight war and injustice and to “imagine a ‘better world,’” he shows no evidence of understanding Communism on the level of theory or practice or the limits of this-worldly utopian “dreaming” as he calls it. Naiveté about the evils inherent in ideological politics is hardly a Christian virtue.
