St. John Henry Newman taught that revealed truth is constantly developing in its doctrinal understanding. Truth itself does not change, but the Church’s further comprehension of its faith does, by necessity, advance. Despite challenges from some contemporary theologians and bishops, the faithful know Jesus will never abandon his infallible church – the ultimate judge of Christian doctrine and its development.
