The diocese of Georg Bätzing, president of the German bishops’ conference and a leader of its Synodal Way, ordained no priests in 2023 – the first time this has happened since the diocese’s creation in 1821. The lack of success in recruiting young men to the priesthood in Limburg is another example of the nationwide and growing vocations crisis.
