The Middle East Studies Association, or MESA (based at Georgetown University), is the largest and most influential association of scholars studying the region – or was before deciding, about a decade ago, to focus its efforts on boycotting Israel. An affiliated professor there calls the October 7 Hamas attacks “awesome.”
