The popularity of the phrase “Christian nationalism” has far outrun any coherent definition. For liberals, all it usually means is any kind of Christian politics that they find disagreeable or distasteful. They’re mostly looking for a way to critique religious conservatives, a label to slap on their ideological enemies – that any kind of politics motivated by conservative evangelicalism or Catholicism is a threat to the First Amendment.
