The Synod on Synodality will conclude in October, but study groups are at work now. To what end? As Notre Dame theologian John Cavadini says, last October’s synod secretariat’s summary was “at best a variety of Protestant ecclesiology” and at worst a version of synodality that gives scant recognition to “the Church as mystery.” Is the Holy Spirit really at work here?
