The problem with saying ‘sex assigned at birth’
Carole Hooven and Alex Byrne, American Enterprise Institute/NYT

The trend of using “sex assigned at birth” rather than simply “sex” on hospital records and birth certificates began around a decade ago, part of an increasing emphasis in society on emotional comfort and insulation from offense – what some have called “safetyism.” In fact, the term takes the birth of a child and turns it away from established biological facts, and infuses it with a sociopolitical agenda, which only serves to intensify social and political divisions.
